UNP does not have voice in leadership council – Maithri Gunaratne
Whenever Ranil Wickremesinghe was in crisis, a leadership council was created, but it does not represent the voice of the UNP, says Central Province Governor Maithree Gunaratne.
Speaking at a press conference in Kandy, he said the leadership council was unfavorable to the UNP. He alleges that Ranil Wickremesinghe has created a front called the Democratic National Front and allowed the UNP to do a very small task in that front, even though it has been decided that it will not nominate anyone other than the UNP candidate. Maithree Gunaratne says that the Democratic National Front has only one member of the UNP and only one is the Prime Minister.
He pointed out that the Leadership Council is running for president in 2020 and that even if the UNP is a major party in the Democratic National Front, only one person will be able to speak. Therefore, the UNP will never be able to appoint a leader, Maithree Gunaratne said.
