“Tests for COVID19 should be rapid; 42,000 probable cases out in society” – GMOA
The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) urges the Government to expedite COVID-19 testing of an estimated 42,000 persons who have had direct contact with 160 individuals who have tested positive for the virus.
According to GMOA member, Dr. Naveen De Soyza said that this finding had been revealed by the State Intelligence Service (SIS).
Dr. Soyza also said that at present, only 300 tests were being performed per day, which according to him was in no way sufficient to diagnose the rest of the existing patients.
“We have requested the authorities to immediately conduct the blood tests for COVID-19 instead of the usual PCR test which is time-consuming,” he said.
The GMOA has requested to increase the number of tests done per a day to isolate infected persons, to which health authorities are yet to respond.
