Many democracies commend Sri Lanka – Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister
Many world democracies have commended Sri Lanka for her ability to maintain the free and democratic electoral system despite challenges, says visiting Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Stef Blok.
He made the remark when he met with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday during his two-day official visit to the island.
The two discussed bilateral and regional affairs at the meeting.
President Sirisena said he would be following a non-partisan position in the upcoming Presidential Election while assuring that the election would be peaceful, democratic and non-corrupt.
The Dutch foreign minister also met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Temple Trees last evening.
At the meeting, Blok commended Sri Lanka for its commitment to restore democracy by upholding human rights and freedom while preserving democratic values.
He also said that Dutch entrepreneurs are willing to boost investments in Sri Lanka.
The premier spoke of the possibilities of enhancing cooperation in different sectors based on the existing relations between the two nations.
They also discussed various projects are being implemented in Sri Lanka with the assistance of the Netherlands and the current global political and economic trends.
