Left Front switches from Anura to Sajith

The Central Committee of the United Left Front decided to withdraw support from Anura Kumara Dissanayake and instead vote for Sajith Premadasa because of the “clear and present danger to Sri Lankan democracy from Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the extremist forces behind him,” a press release said.

Sources said that the party had been split about the decision and the vote was a close one.

The Party Secretary Lal Wijenayake resigned from his post after the vote.

The Press release said that Premadasa was the most “likely candidate to defeat Rajapaksa.”

The ULF is asking any members who wish to support Dissanayake should cast their second preference to the candidate most capable of defeating Rajapaksa.
