Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division.

The Attorney General had advised the Senior DIG of Colombo to arrest and produce the UNF Parliamentarian before court for allegedly causing injury to a motorcycle rider back in 2006 at Rajagiriya.

However, the allegation was brushed aside by Ranawake who has continuously maintained that the accident was a ‘devious plot’ hatched into action by several politicians including Udaya Gammanpila and the top echelon of the new government.

Several minutes before his arrest former Minister Ranawaka via a video uploaded to Facebook said that officers attempting to arrest him had arrived at his home premises located at Jayanthipura-Battaramulla, devoid of informing the magistrate and had deviated from the due accepted legal process followed during the arrest of a Member of Parliament.
