“COVID19 will destroy local economy if Govt. doesn’t act now” – Ranil
Observing that the COVID-19 virus which at present has become a global epidemic, Leader of the United National Party & former Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe says that its implications would have far-reaching economic consequences.
Wickremesinghe said that owing to social distancing, Sri Lanka’s production sector has been heavily hampered and that the interim budget which was passed earlier was unable to full-fill the financial requirements of the incumbent government, due to the limited income it was generating amidst the COVID19 crisis.
Calling for a common economic strategy, Wickramasinghe said that the measures implemented by Sri Lanka’s Central Bank were in no way sufficient against the backdrop of the COVID19 crisis and its far-reaching economic implications.
