Call 119 if vehicles are left unattended for prolonged periods

Drivers have been advised to inform the police before leaving their vehicles unattended on the road for long hours.

Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara announced today that a driver, unable to remain in the vehicle, should contact the Police emergency unit by calling ‘119’ and providing the necessary details.

He warned that drivers should also display their contact details on the vehicle, failing which steps would be taken to dismantle the vehicle to conduct a thorough search.

Yesterday, panic spread in Mattakkuliya after a van was found abandoned near a church in the area.

Later, police confirmed that no suspicious objects were found in the vehicle and that the driver had parked the car due to a mechanical failure.
